Hartzell Aviation is proud to announce that our parent company, Hartzell Engine Tech, a Signia Aerospace Company, has acquired E-MAG Ignitions — makers of the industry’s most recognized self-powered electronic magnetos.

With E-MAG now part of the Hartzell and Signia Aerospace family,Hartzell Aviationcustomers can access a complete range of ignition systems — from certified magneto replacements to advanced electronic ignition — all backed by the trusted PowerUP and QAA support teams.

E-MAG Ignitions have a strong following in the experimental aircraft community, with widespread use among owner-builders flying Van’s RV-series. This hands-on group has been instrumental in validating electronic ignition in real-world applications, helping establish E-MAG as a proven solution well before broader market adoption.

What Sets E-MAG Apart

E-MAG Ignitions are engineered specifically for piston aircraft and deliver next-generation electronic ignition in a fully self-contained package. With no need for external boxes, batteries, or backup magnetos, they simplify installation while improving reliability.

Key Advantages:

  • Self-powered operation – Built-in brushless alternator takes over at ~800 RPM, eliminating dependence on aircraft bus power

  • All-in-one design – No external sensors, controllers, or support hardware

  • Triple redundancy – In dual installations, each unit has its own alternator and both are connected to ship power

  • Advanced spark control – Multi-strike capability and closed-loop energy management for strong, consistent ignition

  • Starter-safe logic – Lockout feature prevents firing before TDC to protect starter motors

  • Voltage dip tolerance – Maintains function during cold starts and low-voltage conditions

  • Streamlined maintenance – No wearable internal alternator parts and minimal added weight

The 114 Series supports most four-cylinder Lycoming and Continental engines.
